Yelcho can be reached by car, boat, bicycle, or public transport from the north or south. To reach Chaitén, you can take a ferry from Puerto Montt or travel by road from the east (Futaleufú) or the south (Coyhaique, etc.).

By road

You can drive to Yelcho in Patagonia through Argentina, crossing through Puyehue (Osorno) to Villa La Angostura and arriving in Bariloche, 125 kilometers from the border (Cardenal Zamoré). Esquel is 300 kilometers from Bariloche and Futaleufú is 73 kilometers away (the last 40 kilometers are unpaved roads). From Futaleufú to Yelcho, there is a 100-kilometer stretch of dirt road, which takes approximately 2 hours by car. Check the GPS coordinates. Ferry

Ferries to Chaitén run regularly from Puerto Montt and Quellón. There is also a daily ferry from Hornopirén to Caleta Gonzalo. The journey from Caleta Gonzalo to Yelcho, in Patagonia, takes approximately 2 hours. Departure days and times can be found at: www.navieraustral.cl
